Orange Smoothie

I got wisdom teeth jacked right outta the ol' dome piece this week.

I posted about my biological dentist on social media and got roughly 1 million questions about who I see. So in case you're reading this and wondering...I recently started going to Groton Wellness in Groton, MA. I like them. Check 'em out.

We'll plan to talk a bit about what biological dentistry is on the podcast soon, but right now, I just can't. Because pain killers make it challenging to come up with cohesive sentences. (Turns out they also make you a lot less creative, hence the title of this recipe.)

Also, don't judge me for the pain killers. You probably know my stance on Big Pharma drugs by now. I barely take so much as an Advil. But this shit hurts. And, for the record, I do know "there's essential oil for that". I tried them all. Vicodin still wins out.

Anyway, the pain and the swelling has led to smoothie mania. That's all I can eat at the moment. Remember Kanye West before he was Kanye West? When he flipped his whip in '02? That's what I look like. Well, maybe not that bad. But definitely Marlon Brando in The Godfather.

So smoothies it is.

SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

1 organic orange + zest

1 roasted sweet potato

1-2 medjool dates, pitted

1 cup coconut milk or almond milk

1/4 cup hemp seeds or soaked almonds

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder

Pinch of dulse flakes (optional - I like to add it to smoothies for trace minerals and iodine)

1-2 scoops collagen peptides (optional - for additional protein) - I use this brand (use code FUNK for 20% off)

INSTRUCTIONS

Clean your orange, then zest using a zester or cheese grater. Reserve the zest, then peel and section. Dump the orange sections into the blender, along with the reserved zest.

Peel the roasted sweet potato and add to the blender. The can be right out of the oven - it will make a warm smoothie. Or you can do what I do and roast a ton of sweet potatoes at once, then keep in the fridge for quick n easy access. Definitely roast them vs. microwave or boil. They get SO MUCH sweeter and tastier in the oven.

If the dates aren't juicy, then soak them for about an hour to rehydrate. I use one date, but if you like things on the sweeter side, throw an extra one in there!

Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and blend, baby, blend!
