Why This Nutritionist Would Never Buy Isagenix Isakids Super Smoothie for My Kid

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kid-feeding is hard. Parents are just trying to do their best. What infuriates me, as both a mom and nutritionist, is seeing well-meaning parents and consumers get taken advantage of. Parents are purchasing Isagenix Isakids Super Smoothie, thinking they’re giving their kids a top-notch quality food, when in reality they are being duped by healthwashing.

Today I will break down some of the ingredients in the Isagenix Isakids Super Smoothie to showcase at best it’s a cheap product and at worst an unhealthy one.

Health Threats of Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are ubiquitous in our food system. Food manufacturers add them to sodas, energy and sports drinks, protein powders, health bars, yogurt, gum, candy, and pharmaceuticals (including syrups and antibiotics for children).

Artificial sweeteners are the food industry’s way of harmonizing our cravings for sweet things with our concern for calories. The appeal is that we can enjoy sweet food without the weight gain and deleterious spikes in blood sugar. Seems like a win-win, right? Not so fast. Moms be like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!), so I thought I’d outline what was going on with me that forced my hand with this decision.

What I Ate in a Day - May 2016

One of my more popular posts was when I revealed the foods in my kitchen. There's just something about seeing what other people eat. I, for one, have always loved to rummage through the fridges and cupboards of other people. Does this make me sound like a feral animal or a psychopath? Eh. I do it not with judgment, but with curiosity. I just love seeing what people eat! (And definitely for information gathering when working with clients. Did you know this is something I do?)

Are You Making These Workout Fuel Mistakes?

What should I eat before and after I exercise? Do I need specific snacks? I get this one a lot. More so lately, for some reason.

My answer to this question is basically my answer to everything: you have to experiment and see. Just as there's no one diet that is appropriate for everyone (shock of all shocks), not every person will do well with the same fuel surrounding exercise. It depends on the type of exercise you do, the intensity, the duration, your goals, your lifestyle, your health status, etc.
