Episode 162: Imposter Syndrome: Are You Talking Yourself Out of Your Own Potential?
Have you ever felt imposter syndrome before? Put simply, it’s the feeling that you’re a fraud or that you don’t belong in a space where you are - even though you have legitimate skills and effort that got you there. We may struggle with imposter syndrome for many reasons: we’re trying something new, we’ve become the little fish in a big pond, or we just feel like a phony or a fraud when pursuing something we’re passionate about. We often talk ourselves out of the thing we want to do for fear of not being good enough, and we worry that we don't have what it takes. “Who am I to do this” stampedes its way through our brain at the WORST possible times. (Like at the exact moment we’re about to make a leap forward.)

Episode 161: How Fear Affects the Body & Brain
Fear is an emotion that affects everyone on varying levels, and in this episode, Erin unpacks not just the science behind fear, but also how this can play into our happiness and health. If you’ve ever been labeled a hypochondriac, are someone who is hypervigilant or on guard (with your body or symptoms, as a parent or caretaker, or in relationships), or someone in your life is hypervigilant, this episode will help you better understand what’s going on in the brain physiologically.
With nuggets of info for just about everybody, Erin discusses the concept of neuroplasticity, the relationship between fear, anxiety, and pain, flow state, and how fear affects ongoing issues with food, sensitivities, and autoimmunity. Is there a way to enhance our overall experience of life by better understanding our fear? Simply listening in may shift something within you.

Episode 160: Mold, Lyme & Chronic Illness with Toréa Rodriguez
Today Erin welcomes back to the show Toréa Rodriguez, FDN-P to discuss not just mold, lyme, and chronic illness, but also how to navigate symptoms, testing, and communicating your illness to friends and family (especially if they don’t understand). Chronic illness often carries a lot of stigma and can be called a “silent illness” because even though you may be dealing with health challenges on the inside, to the outside world, you may not look sick and “seem fine.”

Episode 159: Cancel Culture, Online Illusions & the Fear that Holds You Back
Fear is a natural, primitive emotion that exists to keep us safe from danger. We’ve all experienced fear in our lives. While fear has useful purposes in today’s modern world, it can also hold us back from doing, saying, or even being what we really want. This has become especially true in the online space, where fears of being misinterpreted, judged, or “cancelled” run rampant.
In this episode, Erin discusses the insecurities and fears that have often held her back both in her business and in the online space, as well as trends she’s seeing on social media. Erin shares her insecurities and how she moves through this fear to show up as her most authentic self. Who do you show up for? If you’ve ever suffered from overthinking, shame, or failed to act due to a fear of failure, fear of not being enough, fear of upsetting someone, or fear of being judged, this podcast is definitely for you!

Episode 158: Thyroid Answers with Dr. Eric Balcavage
Get ready to learn in this beefy interview covering next-level topics on the thyroid. If you’re a practitioner, you may want to break out your notepad for this! Today Erin sits down with Dr. Eric Balcavage to discuss all things thyroid health, considerations for specific markers on thyroid panels, and looking beyond labs to change the way medicine looks at hypothyroidism.
If you’ve been struggling with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s, this episode may provide some answers you haven’t gotten elsewhere. This episode is also beneficial for anyone with autoimmunity, not just hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s: pay attention to what Dr. Balcavage says about the immune system, what starts the process, and how we can unravel that.

Episode 157: Manifest Your Health™
What do you want? Better digestion? Less stress? To feel comfortable in your body? Now imagine what it would feel like to have it. (close your eyes and envision it!) You’ve likely heard the phrase “mind over matter” and in this episode, Erin shares her own story in order to highlight this and the collective power of talking about your lived experience with others. Erin discusses principles and practices that have been helpful for her from a physical, emotional, mental, and soul standpoint, and how taking ownership of how you feel, your limiting beliefs, and how you show up in the world can leave a big impact on your overall well being.

Episode 156: Integrative Dermatology - Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea & Beyond with Dr. Julie Greenberg
Ready for a high-level conversation about the connection between our gut microbiome and our skin? Today Erin sits down with Dr. Julie Greenberg, ND to get DEEP into this topic, exploring the effect of western diets, key roles of specific gut bacteria, common skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea, the relationship of candida and other fungal problems, and yes - Botox and fillers, too.
If you’re a practitioner or clinician, or even someone who geeks out on nutrition information, you’ll want to bust out a pen and paper for some notes on this one! Dr. Greenberg delivers an outstanding, comprehensive take on this delicate connection that you’ll absolutely want to tune in for.

Episode 155: Unpacking Core Beliefs
There’s a universal theme among many of us that says we aren’t good enough unless we’re doing more, being more, creating more. Our society is set up to reward this behavior, too: from pay raises and promotions to likes and comments that say, “You’re crushing it!!” it’s hard to think you’re still worthy or enough if you slow down or take a step back.
Today Erin speaks from the heart and draws from examples in her own life and business to discuss the concept of unpacking core beliefs about ourselves, how they tend to show up in our lives, and how shifting these core beliefs can radically change your life in ways you wouldn’t see otherwise. It touches on a lot of things many of us are experiencing right now (burnout, stress) and things we may be wanting to tap into or bring more into our lives (intuition, boundaries).
If you’ve been waiting for a little more woo on the pod, this episode is definitely for you!

Episode 153: Demystifying Home Cooking with Rachel Mistry, MS, RDN
One of the tenets of the Funk’tional Nutritionist is you can’t skip the basics. Eating a variety of whole foods is a huge piece of this, and home cooking is one of the best ways to achieve a whole foods diet. However, a lot of folks feel overwhelmed when it comes to the kitchen, and many don’t know where to start. Today Erin sits down with Rachel Mistry, MS, RDN, to unpack the barriers to entry when it comes to navigating the kitchen. They give practical advice for one pot dishes, pantry staples, maximizing time, overcoming uncertainty, and enlisting help. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll want to tune in to get some great ideas!

Episode 152: Eating for Candida & Autoimmunity, Sugar Substitutes: A Mixed Bag Q&A
This episode is a mixed bag of blood sugar-related topics, ranging from weight loss to sugar substitutes to Candida to diabetes to immunity to hormones. Erin covers it all! Listen in as she answers questions from the community and breaks down why you have more control than you think when it comes to your health.

Episode 151: How to Determine the Right Amount of Sugar for You
Blood sugar regulation is one of the most, if not THE most, important thing to consider when setting out to improve your health. Whether your end-goal is improved adrenal health, thyroid health, hormone balance, weight loss, brain health or increased energy...if you have dysregulated blood sugar, you can’t achieve any of those goals. This is often the first thing Erin addresses with clients in her 1:1 practice, and is THE reason she created her 4-week plan to determine your body's unique carbohydrate needs and end the carb confusion - The Carb Compatibility Project™. This episode is part one of a two-parter from Instagram Live all about blood sugar and how you can begin to tap into your own authority to determine your unique carbohydrate and sugar needs.

Episode 150: Breaking Free from Perfectionism & Emotional Eating
This episode is short, sweet and really gets to the root of what many of us struggle with when it comes to our relationship with food. Erin discusses the connection between over- or under- eating and our desire for a semblance of control, plus how we can shift our mindset around emotional eating and incorporate different intuitive practices into the way we eat and approach food. These are important concepts to think about and apply to your own life - certainly food for thought!

Episode 149: Energetics of the Four-Phase Cycle
This week’s episode takes a dive into the four-phase cycle, a concept introduced in a recent interview with Le’Nise Brothers. It’s been said that the menstrual cycle mimics the phases of the moon and even our four seasons on Earth. While many discussions tend to focus only on the negative aspects of a menstrual cycle, Erin points out that each phase can be an opportunity to highlight things in our lives that need to change. Whether you’re a menstruating person or not, you can tap into this energy. This episode of the Funk’tional Nutrition Podcast breaks down the processes that occur within each of these phases, what it means energetically, and how you can harness the wisdom contained in each phase so that what once felt like a burden can be wielded as a superpower.
